This is a common issue especially for new rv owners that have the global lockset. I guess it saves them a lot of hassle and of course money. I bave a1986 fleetwood pace arrow rv. If you have a global lock it will have a g on it.

How do i get it to lock. Of course this is after you ve managed to open the storage compartment door. The latch on the left side of the door will not release. So the key works but the door and lock don t seem to be functioning correctly. If all else fails you may be able to cut a hole in the side of the adjacent compartment and access the lock that way. If you cannot rack or twist the door a little to release that stuck latch your solution of removing the screws might be the better way to go to avoid damaging the door or the center lock assembly.
